What the Mainstream Media Won’t Tell You(and Why) Part 6: Your Privacy

Hello, again Insights,

The goal of Insight News is to report on stories that aren’t covered by the Mainstream Media. A story that caught my eye from Twitter and I have seen few people talking about it. And it concerns just about all of us. If you are reading this, it affects you.

The concern is over internet privacy. In October, the Federal Communications Commission released an order that protected internet users by preventing Internet Service Providers(ISP) from selling your browsing history to a third party. These ISPs are one of the many wealthy interests who has bought the government and bought legislation favoring them. Only 6 percent of Americans support the bill, disliked along party lines, unlike Congress, where it was largely a party-line vote.

On April 4, Donald Trump signed the bill into law, after the Senate and House of Representatives both recently passed the measure in Congress.

The significant result of the passage of this law is that your privacy is officially gone. The NSA and CIA have the abilities and have engaged in hacking smartphones and other electronics, but any third party can access your browsing history if your ISP sells it to them.

The Mainstream Media has been essentially silent on the whole matter. They are silent because they would benefit from this law at the expense of ordinary Americans. Comcast an internet provider owns NBC, MSNBC, two major news outlets. Time Warner owns CNN. Even other media outlets who don’t have direct ties to internet providers don’t talk about this or care about it because power benefits from this bill. Mainstream Media, or any media for that matter, should be covering this all the time, but we know that the Mainstream won’t talk about this.

What the Mainstream Media Won’t Tell You(and Why) Part 4: The Corporate Media in Conflict with Government

It’s been a long time since I have made a segment on this, and there have been a lot of news in the political universe. The major one was the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States. The mainstream media has been at fault for its coverage. What isn’t the mainstream media telling you, though?

The Mainstream Media as we all know are corporate owned conglomerates, and there are only six major media companies in the U.S. These are Viacom, Time Warner, CBS, Newscorp, Comcast, and Disney. The Telecommunications Act of 1996, which deregulated the industry and allowed for mass mergers to occur easier, creating the current media system.

In an ideal world, the media would be the watchdog of the government and those in power. However, we know that the media is corporate-owned, and thus represent corporate interests.

During the Primary, then-DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was unhappy with the coverage Hillary Clinton, the choice for the DNC and the Democratic Establishment on several channels, Particularly Morning Joe on MSNBC. She contacted MSNBC President Phil Griffin as Emails shown from the DNC leaks this summer.

A similar story between power and the media has been brewing. Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, and top adviser held a meeting with executive VP of Time Warner  Gary Ginsberg where he critiqued CNN’s coverage of Trump.

Disclaimer: Time Warner owns CNN, so Kushner was doing what Wasserman Schultz was doing when she contacted Phil Griffin about alleged negative coverage.

These are just two prime examples of media and government interfering with each other.  In these examples, power is telling the media what to do so they are placed in a favorable light. This is a direct conflict with freedom of the press. Freedom of the press is in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. However, the United States runs as an oligarchy as a Princeton study found out. The study collected over 20 years of data and found virtually no correlation between public opinion and policy. However, the top 10% saw some significant correlation. The Mainstream Media is, as we have said, six companies and represents the corporate interests. The “Big 3” of Cable News, CNN(owned by Time Warner), Fox News(owned by Newscorp) and MSNBC(owned by GE) are all owned by a major media company, and thus the talking points of the establishment are conveyed. The other large networks such as ABC, CBS, and NBC are all part of the “Big 6” of the Media.

Here are some examples of topics covered to stray away from the main issues.

  • Propaganda based on little or no evidence:  An example is Russia. Russia is accused of interfering with the election to help Donald Trump win. The CIA came out and said it was true, and as a result, the media and many figures in government are running with the story. The issue is that there hasn’t been sufficient evidence to prove the claim of the CIA. In conjunction with the CIA, the FBI are in agreement that Russia rigged the election to favor Trump. The Washington Post first reported about the Secret CIA Assessment back in December. While reading through the articles, there was no substantial evidence given. U.S. intelligence has repeatedly stated that Russia had a role in undermining the election, but they need evidence to back it up. To be fair, some of the Russia talks is justified such as calling for an investigation into Trump’s ties to Russia. That is better that saying something is true without backing it up. That is similar to McCarthyism, which is making accusations or assertions without evidence to back it up. The term coincidentally rose during the Second Red Scare of the Soviet Union.
  • Tweets by Trump: Some tweets by Trump or other figures can be newsworthy, but they are a constant focus, and it seems like a daily affair, if not a few times per week across almost all of the Mainstream Networks.
  •  Debates over wedge topics and/or settled topics: Topics such as abortion, same-sex marriage, or climate science: These topics are non-issues or settled.
  • Identity politics: The two-party system has led to two different sides: Democrat and Republican. The topic of political polarization is one of the most common themes heard from mass media networks, particularly on cable news networks. Votes in Congress such as those on cabinet selections which are largely along party lines are overmagnified.

Independent media is more important than ever. Polls consistently show distrust in mass media, and we can see why. Viewership of television news is down, largely due to the mistrust by the people. Please tune out the mainstream networks and support independent media that is publicly financed, unlike corporate networks. By nature, whoever is funding a project, a politician, or an organization will represent who donates to them.

Transition to the Trump Administration

Hello, again, Insights.

I have had many things on my mind concerning this blog, especially after Trump won the Presidency. One of them was focusing on the Transition of power, including Trump’s advisers and cabinet selections, but it became too time-consuming. The thing is that Trump is the new President and there are a lot of real issues that need to be dealt with. Many have expressed concerns due to his blunt, divisive rhetoric. His competentness has also been questioned.

The Trump Administration has gotten off to a rocky start. National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was forced to resign over contacts with the Russia Ambassador concerning U.S. sanctions on Russia. Flynn had lied about the situation, prompting his resignation. However, this situation is far from over. There have been bipartisan efforts to call for an investigation into the situation with Flynn and whether or not Trump or anyone else knew something about it.

A campaign promise Trump made was to “drain the swamp.” That means getting rid of corruption in the political system, particularly in Washington. Unfortunately, Trump has failed to meet that. This is shown through his cabinet selections among other things.

Betsy DeVos is now the Education Secretary after a 51-50 vote. Vice President and Senate President Mike Pence voted for DeVos in a tiebreaker vote that was along party lines. She has been a vocal advocate for charter schools and school choice and has been an outspoken opponent of Public Education and effectively bought her way to the position. 23 senators who voted for her received campaign contributions of at least $1,000 and as many as $98,300 from the DeVos family. Noted that they are not just from Betsy DeVos, but the DeVos family wants something in return for their donations to campaigns and SuperPACs(which we have found out that they are not really ‘independent’ of the campaign.)

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, as well as Goldman Sachs President Steve Mnuchin, were confirmed to the position of Attorney General and Treasury Secretary, respectively. This is what I mean by the concept of principle and objectiveness. Mnuchin was the President of Goldman Sachs, one of the largest banks in America, and in fact the world. In fact, Goldman Sachs had to pay out $5.1 billion as a result of fraud. Things need to be called out when necessary, as well as credit should be given when due.

Sessions has concerns of concerns on civil rights enforcement, among other thingsHe was denied a federal judgeship partly because of this. As the U.S. Attorney General, he could change progress at the state level, such as marijuana legalization. He would also be responsible or prosecuting federal hate crimes, which could be a concern. Additionally, his hard-line stance on immigration boasts another issue, as this could affect many immigrants.

Labor Nominee Andrew Puzder, who had as of this week, withdrew from the nomination process due to concerns that he could be confirmed, which partly goes back to him owing millions to Swiss bank UBS.

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt was confirmed today by the Senate to head the Environmental Protection Agency, but there are many concerns regarding him. As Oklahoma AG, he sued the agency 13 times and has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from Fossil Fuel interests. As you can see from the profile of Oklahoma Strong Leadership PAC, a SuperPAC affiliated with Pruitt, many fossil fuel companies, as well as wealthy individuals from many similar special interests donated to the PAC.

The United States, although considered a democracy, doesn’t operate as one. A Princeton study proved this; America is effectively an oligarchy. A common theme that I have expressed is the issue of money in the political system. Campaign finance Supreme Court cases ranging from Buckley v. Valeo to Citizens United v. FEC have had disastrous effects on our so-called democracy.

The economy is another broad issue always on the minds of the citizens. When Barack Obama took office, we were in the middle of the Great Recession. The big banks had failed. They were too big to fail, causing a worldwide financial crisis. The banks just got bigger. The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 deregulated the financial industry, and a key provision in the bill dismantled Glass-Steagall, a banking Act passed in the wake of the Great Depression. Basically, Glass-Steagall was a bill that placed a firewall on speculation. Commercial and Investment banking were separated.

The surface is just scratched here. More will follow.

Dakota Access Pipeline: Facts and Why it is Dangerous

Over the past few months, the Dakota Access Pipeline has been under debate. In 2014, Energy Transfer Partners and Dakota Acess announced that they had been approved to build a pipeline from North Dakota to Illinois. The cost of the pipeline is estimated to be around $3.8 billion. Several protests have occurred, led by the Dakota and Standing Rock Sioux tribes. The proposed route would cut through their territory in North Dakota and South Dakota.

Where is the DAPL Route?

route
Source: Energy Transfer Partners(Who is developing the pipeline)

As you can see, it starts off in Northwestern North Dakota in the Bakken region, which is the home of the Dakota tribe. It will travel through four states; North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois. Estimates show that the pipeline can transport 470,000 to 570,000 barrels of oil per day should the pipeline go through. The state of North Dakota has produced over 1 million barrels of oil per day on average since April of 2014. Energy Transfer and Dakota Access claim that the pipeline is a safer method of transporting oil than from trucks and rails. A notable incident from transporting oil was the fairly recent one in Quebec in July of 2013.

Part 1: Basic Info

Proponents of the pipeline as well as the Keystone XL pipeline attempt to persuade people to join their side by claiming it lead will to energy independence. When asked on this, Energy Transfer Partners, were unable to give a clear answer. Reports show that the oil is likely to be exported. Lee Fang of The Intercept reports that Energy Transfers is primed to cash in on oil exports. In December, Congress lifted a 40-year ban on crude oil exports, as part of an omnibus bill. Look at the facts here: If there is no embargo on oil exports, then, of course, there will be oil exports. Do you think that Energy Transfers wouldn’t take advantage of the opportunity to export oil?

Also, oil is a non-renewable dirty source for energy. Even if this oil from North Dakota is even used for consumption, it is fueling the human activity led climate change.

During the construction process, Dakota Access and Energy Transfer Partners claim that the number of jobs created will be around 8,000-12,000. These construction jobs aren’t permanent, obviously. They also state that it could raise $50 million from property taxes and $74 million in state sales taxes across North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois. That is a positive, at the expense of the environment.

Part 2: Why is it incorrect?

The Dakota Access Pipeline is wrong for several reasons. The pipeline goes right through the Dakota and Sioux tribes who have vehemently opposed it along with countless other supporters. In fact, the United Nations supports the Dakota and Standing Rock Sioux tribes in opposing the pipeline.

Additionally, the pipeline could contaminate drinking water. Much of the Midwest receives its drinking water through the Missouri River, including the Sioux Tribe, which has been a major catalyst in this battle. Although under the fact sheet subsection titled “Construction and the Land” state that a minimum of 36 inches of soil must cover the pipeline, oil pipelines are prone to leaks. Studies show that fracking leads to contaminated water. People who deny this are denying the truth. We know that there is massive corruption here. Oil companies and notable proponents, including politicians, are definitely in it together. Many politicians take money from big oil companies, who in turn will do their bidding. The site Open Secrets tracks money in politics. Here is a list of major oil and gas companies who have given to politicians in the U.S. Congress. The oil industry is one of the world’s most profitable industries, and it shows in lobbying expenses alone. In each of the last eight years, oil and gas companies have spent over $100 million annually in lobbying expenses also according to Open Secrets.

Here, we see the map of the Missouri River. There is a significant amount of overlapping, which means a lot of the pipeline will be below the Missouri, which solidifies the point of clean water risk with the pipeline.

Part 3: Violence Against Protestors:

Over the recent weeks, there have been an increasing amount of process. Last week, security officials and dogs were brought in and attacked several people. Also, pepper spray has been used on protestors as well. Here is a clip from the protests. These protestors are peacefully protesting, which is a fundamental right established in the First Amendment of the Constitution. Repeated violence against protestors is in clear violation of freedom of assembly. There haven’t been reports of protestors being violent, then came the attacks. This is happening because Energy Transfer Partners and Dakota Access despise these protests because it’s hindering construction and their profits.

Part 4: Funding:
The pipeline’s cost estimates to be around $3.8 billion dollars for the entire project. With this, several major financial institutions have been financing the project. Some include HSBC, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, UBS, JPMorganChase and Wells Fargo to name a few. It’s really no surprise that these institutions back these big name projects. The elite is all interconnected. Oil companies, banks, and other corporations all work together to keep the system as it is alive. The system as it is needs to stop

Part 5: Recent ruling and Executive Action

A federal judge recently ruled against halting the construction of the pipeline except in an area sacred to the Dakota tribe, but the Obama Administration stepped in to halt the DAPL’s construction temporarily. Even with this good news, there is still a lot of fight left to end the DAPL in its entirety.

Breaking Down the Party Platforms: Republicans

7 August 2016

Hello, again Insights.

A couple of weeks ago, the Republican National Convention was held in Cleveland. With the convention also is the release of the party’s platform. This post will break key parts in the six major sections. I’ll also have one for the Democrats and maybe one for the Libertarian and Green parties as well.

Part 1: Restoring the American Dream

Economy: The economy has recovered from the Great Recession, but it can still improve. The party recognizes that economic growth is slow, and policy ideas such as tax reform is a position outlined in the platform. A consistent position of the Republican Party is cutting taxes. They believe that cutting taxes fuels economic growth, which is called supply-side economics. The platform also adds that the tax code is too long and complicated. It is, the Federal tax code is 74,608 pages and growing. Just to note, the RNC is a bit hypocritical considering they are part of the corrupt system that allows for these tax loopholes. The platform has to say that to be with the people.

Part 2: A Rebirth of Constitutional Government

If there’s one thing that you hear about from Republicans, it’s that care about the Constitution, and they want a “strict interpretation” of it. I’ll extract some of the key parts of the section.

Here’s the misleading part: We heard about the First Amendment, specifically about religious liberty. However, it doesn’t appear to be for everyone based on past actions. The “religious freedom” part entails primarily to Christians and it allows for discrimination, particularly on the LGBT community on the basis of religious grounds. For example, Republicans favor “anti-terror” programs that often target Muslims because of 9/11 among other things.

The Second Amendment and gun rights are sacred to Republicans. The right to keep and bear arms is an “inalienable” right.  They also imply that with the death of Antonin Scalia, Obama’s new pick for the Supreme Court, Merrick Garland would institute a new liberal majority that would ” eviscerate the Second Amendment’s fundamental protections.”Over 30,000 people die from guns in the U.S. each year. Most of them are suicides, but around 11,000 are homicides. However, the platform fails to mention it.

The Fourth Amendment’s section talks about the increasing privacy protections and(surprise) how terrorists can go around it to harm us. They also add the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act(FATCA) and for its repeal. FATCA is a law passed in 2010 that targets non-compliance by American taxpayers who use foreign accounts. The platform says this is a violation of the Fourth Amendment because it claims to search foreign accounts without warrants.

Honest Elections: The first line of this segment reads, “Honest elections are the foundation of representative government.” The second line says “We pledge to protect the voting rights of every citizen,…”. Ironically, Republicans push and pass laws that make it harder to vote, particularly for minorities. Seventeen states have new laws coming into effect this year. Wisconsin Representative Glenn Grothman(R) stated Wisconsin’s law gives an advantage to Republicans. History shows that Republicans tend to win when voter turnout is low. In 2013, the Supreme Court overturned Section 4 of 1965’s Voting Rights Act in the case Shelby County v. Holder.

Part 3: America’s Natural Resources: Agriculture, Energy, and the Environment.

Energy and the Environment have been a concern for the Republican Party. First of all, they are the only major party in the advanced world to deny climate change. The money in the system allows for big oil companies to flood their campaigns with donations, and in return, Republicans often listen to them and call for more oil a the expense of the environment.

Even though fossil fuel resources are dwindling and are non-renewable, the platform doesn’t say to increase the use of renewable energy. Instead, the RNC states that we use more coal from the ground and increase domestic production. They take aim at the Democrats stating that “they do not understand that coal is an abundant, clean, affordable, reliable domestic energy resource.” Some of those claims are debatable. A case study by the Union of Concerned Scientists outlays how coal plants are harmful to the environment. Examples include sulfur dioxide, which is a leading cause of acid rain, as well as the well known CO2 emissions.

Part 4: Government Reform

The Republican Party is known for its fiscal conservatism, and one policy proposal is to balance the budget. The budget deficit will be around $534 billion by the end of FY 2016 according to the Congressional Budget Office(CBO) and according to them, it is expected to rise. A constitutional amendment has been proposed by Republicans for years now to balance the budget, but it can be difficult in some years such as a recession.

Saving Social Security and Medicare:

A priority for both major parties is to preserve Social Security and Medicare. A few years ago, the Social Security trust fund began running deficits. If that trend were to continue, the funds would eventually dry up. Republicans claim that it’s effectively insolvent, but that is untrue. Contrary to that, Social Security is solvent until 2037, and Medicare is solvent until 2028. It’s 12 years until Medicare’s funds dry up, which means that there needs to be a solution addressed. The section states that “As Republicans, we oppose tax increases and believe in the power of markets to create wealth and to help secure the future of our Social Security system.” Some solutions are to raise taxes and lift the cap on taxable income. If you can’t raise taxes, then you’ll have to cut it, which is what many Republicans and even some Democrats are trying to do.

Immigration:  Immigration, especially illegal Immigration has spent some time in the forefront over the past year. Donald Trump’s comments early on in the primary called for things like building a wall along the Southern border. As Trump is the Republican nominee, his positions will be influenced in the platform. The platform explicitly calls for building a wall along the southern border.

Regulation: The GOP platform calls it the quite tyranny. It quotes “It hamstrings American business and hobbles economic growth.” The platform specifically mentions the EPA, Dept. of Health and Human Services, and the Dept. of Labor to name a few. It also says “The Environmental Protection Agency has rewritten laws to advance the Democrats’ climate change agenda.”

One major law that Democrats were proud of was the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall St. Reform Act. The GOP called it a “legislative Godzilla” that crushes small and community banks. The platform states that “Predictably, central planning of our financial sector has not created jobs, it has killed them.” Also, it states that there are more risks for the financial sector. Additionally, they state that “Republicans believe that no financial institution is too big to fail.” The problem is that major financial institutions are too big to fail RIGHT NOW and have been that way since before the Great Recession. A surprising thing in the platform is the explicit call for the reinstation of the Glass-Steagall. Glass-Steagall is a bill prohibiting banks from engaging in high-risk investments with depositor money. Republicans in the late 199os pushed for its repeal, which makes the call to reinstate Glass-Steagall so surprising.

Part 5: Great American Families, Education, Healthcare, and Criminal Justice

The GOP platform is noted for its sometimes extreme conservatism on social issues. Examples include explicitly stating that marriage is between a man and a woman. They also call for the reversal of Obergefell v. Hodges which legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

Education: In the platform, it states that everyone has the chance to receive a quality education. The platform calls on for a choice in education(vouchers) which has been supported by the party for a long time. Student loan debt has surpassed credit card debt by about $400 billion. The platform states that the federal government shouldn’t be in the student loan business, although costs are lower under this system. Student loan services, as well as lobbying firms supporting these services, have given donations to Congress. Those donations affect how politicians legislate. In October, two Republican Senators Kelly Ayotte(NH) and Shelley Moore(WV) introduced the Student Loan Relief Act of 2015. The bill had language that would lower interest rates, but would be more beneficial to private loan companies. Ayotte noted that the CBO stated that the federal government would make about $50 billion in profit from student loans over the next decade, but is OK with private companies increasing profits.

Healthcare: Healthcare has been a big topic under the Obama Administration. The Affordable Care Act passed Congress in 2009 and was signed into law the following year. Republicans have pushed to repeal it dozens of times. They have stated that premiums are too high, and prescription drug prices are too high. However, the solution that is outlined by the platform committee is very similar to the system that we have now. Additionally, there has been no action by Republicans to lower the costs of prescription drugs since many of them receive donations from the pharmaceutical industry.

One government-run healthcare system is Medicaid, for low-income households. In the platform, it calls to “block grant Medicaid and other payments and to assist all patients, including those with pre-existing conditions, to obtain coverage in a robust consumer market.”

Criminal Justice: Over 2 million people are currently incarcerated in either jails or prisons. The “War on Drugs” has locked of millions for mainly nonviolent offenses. The platform brushes on it, mentioning first-time nonviolent offenders of the law in general.

Part 6: America Resurgent

The Republican Party calls for confronting dangers, supporting troops and veterans, as well as standing by our allies. Another thing that the GOP is known for is high defense spending. Their rhetoric implies that our military is small is easily pushed over. However, our defense spending is far ahead of any other nation. Republicans claim that Obama is massively cutting defense spending which he is not. A subsection is titled “Honoring and Supporting Our Veterans: A Sacred Obligation”. The Department of Veterans Affairs, according to them need to be held accountable more often. Additionally, they complain about the mistreatment of veterans, but they have blocked several pro-veteran bills in Congress.

Israel: The Republican Party stands up for Israel as the United States ally in the Middle East region. In the platform, it states that similar values to America and is the only country in the region to have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Additionally, it states that America will continue to assist Israel to enhance its security against enemies in the Middle East. The Republican Party, as well as Israel, believe that Iran will try to bomb them and that the recent Iran Deal is a surefire way for that to happen. One alarming but not surprising thing is that the GOP denies is that Israel is an occupier of Palestine. The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions(BDS) is a position that they, therefore oppose. They claim that it is anti-Semitic and “seeks to destroy Israel.” The thing is, it is a known fact that Israel is an occupier, and it is quite harsh.

Advancing Human Rights: The platform states that America is an exit for those living under tyrannical regimes. Again, it states that Radical Islamic Terrorism is an “existential threat to personal freedom and peace around the world.” The concern here is that Republicans(and to an extent, the Democrats) have long supported foreign policy initiatives that are catastrophic to the most vulnerable, thus violating human rights. The Human Rights Watch acknowledges that the U.S. has enacted national security measures such as mass surveillance programs that restrict the freedom of the press, assembly, and expression. A UN report in 2014 criticized the National Security Agency(NSA) for its mass surveillance and the United States’ overseas actions that violated human rights.

The DNC, the Media, Election Fraud, and the Democratic Party Platform

28 July 2016

Hello, again Insights.

Last week, the RNC occurred in Cleveland. I didn’t watch it, so what I know about it are the news and other people. Today is the final day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, and just like in the primaries, there have been several issues.

On July 22, Wikileaks released tens of thousands of emails and attachments regarding the DNC and connections to Hillary Clinton. To search for those, click here. There was mass speculation that the DNC coddled with the Clinton campaign from the very beginning, and there was a conflict of interest going on: Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz worked as a campaign co-chair on Clinton’s 2008 campaign. As a result of the leaks, Wasserman Schultz stepped down as the DNC chair but is now working with the Clinton campaign officially(since she and the DNC worked with her) as an “honorary chair” to help get her and Democrats in all 50 states elected.

Election fraud has occurred in several cases including intentional slashing in the number of polling stations such as those in Arizona and Puerto Rico, causing long wait lines. Puerto Rico typically has a high voter turnout, had less than 5% of eligible voters cast their ballots. In California, millions were told to have to vote provisional ballots even though they were registered Democrats or recently registered as a Democrat. The media called California for Hillary Clinton before millions of provisional ballots were even counted. There was also reports of illegally shredded ballots in the Golden State.

Election Justice USA– A non-partisan coalition dealing with election fraud.

Democratic Primary Fraud- Election Justice

The convention kicked off on Monday to Sanders supporters protesting the corruption in the DNC. Michelle Obama and Bernie Sanders were some of the keynote speakers of the night. However, there has been many problems with delegates and protesters. As you may know, Sanders supporters have been talked down to and asked to “fall in line” for party unity to defeat Trump.

The Mainstream Media, which has ties to Clinton and virtually every other establishment political figure, reports only the surface. They cannot report the whole story because they’re part of the corruption that is going on. There have been issues with other media sources such as with the online The Young Turks. TYT political reporter Jordan Chariton was locked out from the media tent on Day 2 of the convention. In continuation, protesters occupied the media tent, protesting the mainstream media and their establishment/conservative bias.

There was some good news, however. Starting in 2020, 2/3 of the Democratic Party’s superdelegates have to vote according to the results of the primary or caucus in their state. In the weeks leading up to the convention, committees began drafting the party platform for the next four years. Some notable changes were calling for a $15 minimum wage as well as debt-free college. Other things did not change from 2012 such as on foreign policy such as on the Palestine-Israel conflict. New things were added such as praising and attempting to pass the TPP.

Full Democratic Party Platform

That is the basics of the DNC, the media, election fraud, and what the upcoming platform is. I’ll also have a similar post regarding the Republicans and the RNC soon.

Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine

26 July 2016

Hello, again Insights.

A few days ago, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton named Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia as her running mate. He was considered for a bid for Clinton’s VP selection and is less of a surprise than Trump’s selection of Mike Pence. Many still don’t know much about Kaine and what it means. Let’s break it down.

Tim Kaine Fast Facts:

Born: February 26, 1958 Age: 58

U.S. Senator from Virginia since 2013

Governor of Virginia from 2006-2010

Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 2002-2006

Served on Richmond City Council from 1994-2001; Mayor from 1998-2001

Former Catholic Missionary

Full Kaine timeline.

In June, Sen. Elizabeth Warren endorsed Hillary Clinton, upsetting many progressives. She and Bernie Sanders have very similar policy positions. However, if Clinton teamed up with Warren, she could court more of the progressive voters to vote for her. Unfortunately for them, Clinton chose a moderate Democrat in Tim Kaine. Let’s break down his stances on some of the issues.

Supports TPP and other free trade agreements plus fast track of TPP(conservative)

Supports Right-to-work measures (conservative)

Favors Gun Control(liberal)

Favors Women’s Reproductive Rights, during public service career. (liberal) Personally pro-life however.

Favors financial deregulation (conservative)

Pro-Immigration stance(liberal)

Kaine is liberal on some positions and conservative on others, equaling a moderate.

Warren is known for her career as a law professor and focused on bankruptcy and personal finance. She favors strong regulation on the banks and was instrumental in establishing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and was a special adviser. This position conflicts with Clinton because many of her  top campaign donors are major financial institutions such as Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and JP Morgan Chase. As this is one of Warren’s strongest policy positions, the Clinton campaign felt that there would be a conflict between her and Warren and preferred a more moderate candidate who agrees more with her on the issues.

The 2016 election has been the year of the anti-establishment, and that’s why Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump did so well. Democratic primary voters who backed Sanders recognized Hillary Clinton’s corruption, but many would vote for Clinton in the General Election vs. Trump, in which many of them are votes against him. The ideology difference between Clinton and Sanders is very wide, despite running for the same party’s nomination. Voters who are more progressive feel isolated without Sanders and a progressive like Warren had the possibility to bring more “party unity.” Many Sanders supporters, however, are Independents. The Clinton camp often says that she is entitled to Sanders voters and they’ll eventually “fall in line” to defeat Trump. Despite these remarks, Clinton actions don’t appear to be trying to court more progressive voters. Instead, Clinton has made attempts to get Jeb Bush donors to her side, and a SuperPAC called “Republicans For Hillary” was formed by a GOP donor named Craig Snyder. Trump’s unpredictability has disillusioned many establishment donors since they don’t know if he can be controlled or not.

An additional reason that Clinton chose Kaine is that he has numerous pro-establishment positions such as on free trade and financial deregulation. Clinton(and now) Kaine have come out in opposition to the latest free trade agreement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership(TPP) even though it was as recent as last week that Kaine spoke out in favor of the TPP. When Clinton was Secretary of State, she helped to start negotiations for TPP, and publicly came out 45 times in support.

There it is. Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine. I will have a similar post up soon detailing Trump and Mike Pence. My question for you is this: Does Kaine help or hurt Clinton?

Police Shootings, Black Lives Matter and the Facts

12 July 2016

Hello, again Insights.

This week has been a very controversial week in the realm of politics. There were two high-profile black cop shootings of black men. There was a mass shooting of police officers in Dallas as a response. There have been various protests led by local chapters of Black Lives Matter in response.

What happened?

Two high-profile shootings by police officers of black men, Philando Castille in St. Paul and Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge. As a result, several protests broke out in these two cities as well as across the United States. On Thursday night, Micah Johnson shot 5 police officers dead. There has been speculation from the mainstream outlets that whether or not that Johnson was connected to Black Lives Matter. It is known that Johnson had no connections to BLM.

Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter is a national organization who aims to make black lives more valid and to stop police brutality. What is commonly said is that BLM only cares about black lives. BLM means Black Lives Matter as well. It is a known fact that blacks have been treated unfairly during the history of America, in which BLM obviously points out.

Facts on Police Shootings

According to The Guardian, over 574 people have been shot by police, and an overwhelming majority of them are men. It is true that more whites die than blacks from police shootings, but they make up over 60 percent of the population, as opposed to only 13 percent who are black. Opponents of groups such as Black Lives Matter point out  that white people die more from police shootings than black people. That is true, but it is DISPROPORTIONATELY African-American. The rate of police shooting deaths of blacks is around 25%, nearly twice the rate of the percentage of blacks in this country. The Guardian’s tally is as follows(as of 12 July 2016). I’ll add the percentages of the deaths by race, and the actual percentage of the U.S. population.

281 White(Non-Hispanic)(49.0%)(62%)

140 Black(24.3%)(13%)

88 Hispanic(15.3%)(18%)

42 Unknown race/ more than one race(7.3%)(2%)

13 Native American(2.3%)(1%)

10 Asian/Pacific Islander(1.7%)(5%)

Estimates from census.gov

You see, whites are killed by police at about a 2:1 margin, but outnumber blacks at an over 4:1 ratio,  which is closer to 5:1. Native Americans, although a much smaller amount of the population, are disproportionately killed as well. BLM is trying to end the systematic racism focusing on the lives of African Americans. Here’s the deal: ALL LIVES MATTER. Blacks, Whites, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans, Middle Eastern, etc. There have been hundreds of arrests in the last week, including 102 in St. Paul. In more news, there has been a petition that would reclassify Black Lives Matter as a terrorist organization. The petition has received over 100,000 signatures. We need to get to a state of equality and end this madness. That includes reforming the criminal justice system and demilitarizing the police forces.

Hillary Clinton, James Comey and the FBI

10 July 2016

Hello, Again Insights.

On Tuesday we heard a report from the FBI director, James Comey. Not exactly surprising, the FBI will rewrite the laws to let Hillary Clinton off the hook. Comey, a Republican did state that it was “gross negligence” of what Clinton did, but anyone could have done that. Comey also stated that no reasonable prosecutor would go through with the case and press charges. His party affiliation doesn’t really matter because both are members of the establishment. In this post, I’ll go a little more in-depth with the investigation and the facts.

Since February 2015, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been under investigation for using a private e-mail server during her time at the state department. Also, this use of a private server has raised questions whether this had an effect on September 11, 2012, Consulate attack in Benghazi, Libya and jeopardizing national security.

Last week, former President Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch held an impromptu meeting. Disclaimer: Loretta Lynch was appointed a US attorney by Clinton in 1999, so there has to be some bias with Lynch regarding a possible indictment. It’s just common sense, not any anti-Clinton bias which the pro-Clinton people are saying. Lynch said the meeting was about ‘grandkids’ among other things, but if you use your brain, you’ll know that there was a long discussion regarding the indictment. I read some articles and a video about this, and it hit me: The meeting happened because they were unsure of what the FBI would do. Lynch stated that she would “accept recommendations” from the FBI regarding an indictment. That doesn’t mean that she will choose to indict Clinton if the Lynch has ties to the Clintons, so we know that would be unlikely in the first place.

Bill Clinton- Loretta Lynch Meeting

Facts

The State Department received access to Clinton’s server, and reports have found that some emails were classified at the time, and some were changed to classified after Clinton left the state department. According to Comey, the emails were a mix of confidential, secret, and top-secret information.

Another point is that a private SERVER was used, not just a private email account. A government server would have high security, unlike a private one. Since this was a private server of a high-ranking official, it became more prone to hacking, which occurred on several occasions. In his speech on Tuesday, Comey added that a regular email account is MORE secure than Clinton’s combination of a private account and server. The language that Comey used implied that Clinton broke the law, but she would basically get away with it.

In May of 2014, the House of Representatives formed a select committee on Benghazi to see if Clinton was responsible for the deaths of 4 Americans and how it tied into the email scandal. However, the 9 reports that were released showed no wrongdoing and it appeared that the select committee was not efficient in their use of taxpayer dollars.

Benghazi Committee Reports

Benghazi Committee by the Numbers

Conclusion:

FBI reports clearly showed that Clinton broke the law, but she won’t be indicted likely on “establishment privilege” as I call it. Whistleblowers such as Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning received harsh punishments for revealing classified information on what the U.S. was doing overseas like what Manning did or global surveillance programs as with Snowden. The point is very clear. Clinton did break the law shown from FBI reports, but others such as the Benghazi reports found nothing. The point that I’m trying to make is that there was definitely a bias in favor of Clinton in this investigation.

What the Mainstream Media Won’t Tell You(and Why) Part 3

Hello, again Insights.

I’m sure you have heard about the Ataturk Aiport attack in Istanbul, Turkey. Two suicide bombers killed over 40 and injured over 100 others. There were also attacks in Bangladesh and Baghdad in which the death toll in Baghdad is now over 200. When something like this happens, it’s major news for a week. The mass media often doesn’t tell the entire story.

Terrorist attacks occur frequently, and every major one seems shocking. They’re more publicized here if they happen in Europe or America. My last post in the media segment focused on fear mongering, which applies to this post. There will be calls by the media and our politicians to get “tough on terrorism” which is code to spend more on defense programs that have been proven not to work, and in some ways backfire by creating a hatred for the United States.

Going back to my first point, European and American terrorist attacks are more publicized because they occur in areas with low Muslim populations. As a result, the Paris and Belgium attacks received a lot of publicity, unlike the Beirut, Lebanon attack in November of 2015 which had similar consequences. Lebanon is close to Iraq and Syria, the home of ISIL caliphate. Attacks by the U.S. and other powers such as Israel often violate international law but is almost always called the counter-terror attacks. Presidential candidates such as Ted Cruz favor an increase of what the U.S. is doing. What isn’t frequently talked about on mainstream networks is that the United States ranks No. 1 in defense spending, which is almost four times as much as the No. 2 country, China, As you can see in this graph by the Washington Post. What is often overlooked is the effectiveness of defense programs. We bomb ISIL more than any other nation, yet nothing has changed. In fact, the United States is running out of bombs. Additionally, there are several environmental consequences of war. Examples include poorer air quality, increased oil use, as well as the dismantling of infrastructure which are obvious. As I have stated in previous posts, the MSM needs winners and losers in order to function. The media and Congress are corporate owned, and defense contractors will want to sell more war to increase their profit. That is why we need to get money out of politics to restore a government that is for the people, and by the people.
